What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government initiative designed to help reduce financial barriers to dental care for Canadian residents. If you have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 and do not have access to private or employer-sponsored dental insurance, you may be eligible for coverage under the CDCP.
The program is being rolled out in phases, prioritizing seniors, persons with disabilities, children under 18, and eventually expanding to all eligible Canadians. At Bella Dental Clinic, we believe everyone deserves access to quality dental care — and the CDCP helps make that a reality.

As an approved CDCP provider, we handle the billing directly with Sun Life (the plan administrator), so you can focus on your dental health without worrying about paperwork or unexpected costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The CDCP is designed for Canadians who do not have access to dental insurance through an employer, pension, or private plan. If you already have dental coverage, you are not eligible for the CDCP. The plan does not replace or supplement existing private insurance.
Yes. A trusted person (such as a family member) can help you complete your application over the phone. You can also designate a formal delegate through Service Canada to handle your CDCP enrollment on your behalf. This is especially helpful for seniors or persons with disabilities who may need assistance. Please inquire on how Bella Dental Clinic can help you with your application.
No. The interim Canada Dental Benefit (CDB) was a temporary program for children under 12, providing direct payments to families. The CDCP is a separate, permanent program with broader eligibility that covers a wider range of services and is administered through Sun Life. The CDB is no longer accepting new applications.
Please bring your Sun Life CDCP member card and a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s licence or passport). We handle all billing directly with Sun Life, so there’s no need for upfront payment for covered services.
It depends on your income. If your adjusted family net income is under $70,000, there is no co-payment. Between $70,000 and $79,999, the co-payment is up to 40%. Between $80,000 and $89,999, the co-payment is up to 60%. Bella Dental will help you understand your specific coverage at your appointment.
Yes. As an approved CDCP provider, we handle direct billing with Sun Life on your behalf. You won’t need to pay upfront and submit claims — we take care of it all, so you can focus on your dental health.
